Subtitling or Voice-Over: which is best for your presentation?

When considering whether to use voice-overs or subtitles in your video presentations we understand that the decision, as for most organizations, often comes down to budget. Voice-over is generally more costly. If your multimedia project includes audio, subtitling may be a good alternative, adding captions in other languages at the bottom of the screen to mirror what is being said in the video. In some scenarios, a combination of both may give you the results you need.

When making your decision, a few things to think about are: Where is your target audience? How will the video be viewed?  For mobile users, subtitles may either be too small to read or obscure the visual content. For instructional videos, subtitles may be your best choice, but there are exceptions. If a video is demonstrating something on the screen and doesn’t have additional text, subtitles may work well. But if there is already a fair amount of text on the screen, then voice-overs could be a better option. Adding subtitles is important if you need to meet compliance requirements to provide access to hearing impaired.
