Celebrating Mothers at PTIGlobal

Sunday, May 13 is Mother’s Day! PTIGlobal would like to express gratitude towards all the working mothers in our company and highlight their perspective on motherhood, work-life balance and professional career.

Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

The field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is crucial in driving critical thinking and new ideas needed in the modern economy. Even though the number of women entering STEM fields has grown, women still remain underrepresented both in STEM jobs and among STEM degree holders. According to the Economics & Statistics Administration, women make up about half of the American workforce, but hold only 24% of STEM jobs. While nearly as many women as men have undergraduate degrees, women make up only about 30% of all STEM degree holders.

It is difficult to explain these statistics, because there are so many reasons and complex circumstances that influence women’s career choices. Family background, cultural and social factors, economic aspects and education are some of them. With motherhood, a sense of responsibility towards oneself and others, of staying focused and organized while multitasking to meet deadlines, and also of having a central purpose in life worth every effort and pain, becomes essential in both personal and professional life.

At PTIGlobal, women are very well represented in all our core teams, as the statistics below show.

Technical positions: 62% female employees, 38% male employees
Non-Technical positions: 70% female employees, 30% male employees

PTIGlobal Working Mothers and Their Perspectives on Motherhood and Professional Career

Many of the working women are mothers, and most of them have succeeded in their efforts to balance family and work life, and to continue to grow professionally while being present for their families. What do PTIGlobal mothers think about being a positive example in their children’s lives as working mothers and also about learning through the experience of motherhood and developing their careers at the same time?

Localization Engineer: “From my child I learned to see things from a different perspective. For example I explain a rule to my child, but he chooses to do something his own way, and he tells me the reasons from his point of view. At work I would explain a new process to my mentees, but sometimes they find different, more efficient, or faster ways to complete a task. Thanks to my child, I am very open to listening to others’ points of view and seeing the process through someone else’s eyes.”

Technical Writer: “I had to start my maternity leave earlier than planned, but PTIGlobal was generous, flexible and supportive of my situation. I appreciate the flexibility of my job, the fact that I could reduce my work load, because I cherish the time when I can dedicate 100% of my attention to my child.”

Localization QA Tester/Lead: “I feel guilty for not being able to spend more time with my child, but I enjoy the interaction with other professionals, and I think being a working mother is a positive example for my child. I also have a financial reason to work to be able to provide everything my child needs. In my job at PTIGlobal, I can manage my time and work flexible hours, connect to work remotely, bring my child onsite and take time off when needed. This job is perfect for mothers!”

Localization QA Tester/Engineer: “Having a working mother myself, I learned to be motivated and ambitious. My wish for self-realization should motivate my child later in life. When I work, I feel energized, but I also look forward to going back home to my child.”

Technical Writer: “I appreciate the flexibility to work from home that PTIGlobal offered me. I had the opportunity to always be available for my children, but I had to teach them to respect my schedule and working time. After school they got a snack, but then they had to “let mommy work.” When I met a project deadline, and my kids were cooperative, they got a reward. My children grew to develop a good sense of responsibility and respect towards work, which helped them become independent adults.”
